Aaron Ashmore cast in 'The Thaw'

In thriller with Martha MacIsaac and Val Kilmer

Aaron Ashmore has been cast in the indie feature "The Thaw," opposite Martha MacIsaac and Val Kilmer.

Anagram Pictures is producing the thriller about an Arctic research team attacked by a killer parasite released by melting polar ice caps.

Ashmore will play a college student in the besieged crew.

"The Thaw" is written by Michael Lewis and Mark A. Lewis. The latter also will direct. Anagram's Mary Anne Waterhouse, Trent Carlson and Rob Neilson will produce. Shawn Williamson and Stephen Hegyes from Brightlight Pictures and Blake Corbet from Anagram will serve as executive producers.

Shooting begins in Vancouver Monday.

Ashmore, repped by APA and Artistry Management, plays Jimmy Olsen on "Smallville," and previously had a regular spot on "Veronica Mars." He begins shooting a new season of "Smallville" in the late summer, and he will appear in the Lionsgate feature "Thomas Kinkade's Home for Christmas" at year's end.

Pete Doherty misses Paris concert

Eurostar train to blame for cancellation

PARIS -- Pete Doherty missed his Paris concert, and a Eurostar train was to blame.
The high-speed train that connects London and Paris made the journey in some five hours Thursday night. The trip usually takes just over two hours. That left fans of the Babyshambles singer waiting at the Grand Rex theater until the "we're sorry, the concert is canceled" announcement.
Eurostar officials said Doherty's train was due in Paris at 9:20 p.m. but arrived at 2:13 a.m. Friday due to a technical problem. That was too late for Doherty to make the show.
The delay may have disappointed Doherty fans, but it also embarrassed Eurostar after delays in May. Train chief Guillaume Pepy has ordered Eurostar to do everything to be on time.

Rupert Everett - Everett Apologises Over Army Slur

LATEST: Outspoken actor RUPERT EVERETT has apologised to British servicemen for branding them "whining wimps" - insisting his comments were "flippant and irresponsible".

The Stardust actor, whose own father was a major in the British Army, made the controversial comments in a documentary filmed for the U.K.'s Channel 4 about 19th century soldier Sir Richard Burton.

The star compared modern day soldiers to old fashioned recruits, insisting British fighters in Iraq and Afghanistan constantly "whine" about facing the risk of death.

But Everett faced a major backlash over his remarks, especially as they coincided with the news that three young British soldiers died in combat in Afghanistan this week (beg09Jun08).

And the actor has now released a statement apologising profusely for his words.

It reads, "I was talking trivially about something very serious. I never meant at any point to question the bravery of those who lose their lives or survive, but without arms or legs.

"My flippant and irresponsible behaviour arises from a deep frustration at the fact that we seem to be continually making war.

"Again I apologise unreservedly to anyone who has been insulted by my remarks."

Lucas fears Indiana Jones will disappoint

George Lucas has said that he expects people to be disappointed by his new Indiana Jones movie.
The 'Star Wars' director told USA Today: "When you do a movie like this, a sequel that's very, very anticipated, people anticipate ultimately that it's going to be the Second Coming."
He added: "And it's not. It's just a movie. You probably have fond memories of the other movies. But if you went back and looked at them, they might not hold up the same way..."
Comparing the reaction of fans when he returned to the 'Star Wars' franchise 16 years after 'Return of the Jedi' he said: "When people approach the new [Indiana Jones], much like they did with 'Phantom Menace', they have a tendency to be a little harder on it."
Lucas is the executive producer on 'Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull', alongside director Steven Spielberg.
In response to the anticipated critical reaction to the film he said: "You're not going to get a lot of accolades doing a movie like this. All you can do is lose. I know the critics are going to hate it. They hate the idea of making another one. They've already made up their minds."
'Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull', starring Harrison Ford and Cate Blanchett, will open in Irish cinemas on 22 May.
